U-1059 was a Type VIIF submarine built for the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at Germaniawerft, Kiel on 4 June 1942. Launched on 12 March 1943, she entered service on 1 May 1943.
21 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Type UB III, Vetehinen class and was succeeded by the Type XXI (Late-war replacement).
The boat displaced 1,067 long tons surfaced and 1,162 long tons submerged. She measured 77.6 m (255 ft) long with a beam of 7.3 m (24 ft). Her designed speed was 17.6 knots.
