U-1198 was a Type VIIC submarine, operated by the Kriegsmarine. F Schichau GmbH, Danzig laid her keel on 13 March 1943. She entered service on 9 December 1943, having been launched on 30 September 1943.

612 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Type UB III, Vetehinen class and was succeeded by the Type XXI (Late-war replacement).
