She was originally built as the German Type VIIC-class submarine U-1202 and commissioned 27 January 1944. The boat was decommissioned at Bergen, Norway on 9 May 1945 and transferred by Great Britain to Norway in october 1948. U-1202 became KNM Kinn (S308) and served until 1961. The submarine was scrapped in 1961.

U-1202 was a Type VIIC submarine in service with the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at Schichau-Werke, Danzig on 28 April 1943. Launched on 11 November 1943, she entered service on 27 January 1944.

612 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Type UB III, Vetehinen class and was succeeded by the Type XXI (Late-war replacement).

The boat displaced 757 long tons surfaced and 857 long tons submerged. She measured 67.1 m (220 ft) long with a beam of 6.2 m (20 ft). Her designed speed was 17.7 knots.

Her main battery was one 88 mm (3.5 in) guns.

She served with the Kriegsmarine as U-1202 until 9 May 1945. She then passed to the Royal Norwegian Navy, serving as HNoMS Kinn from 1 July 1951. She was in commission for 468 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 1 June 1961.

She was broken up for scrap in 1963.
