HMS Archer was a Long Island-class escort carrier in service with the Royal Navy. She carried the pennant number D78. Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., Chester, Pennsylvania laid her keel on 1 August 1939. She entered service on 17 November 1941, having been launched on 14 December 1939.
She was the only ship of her class. The class followed the N/A and was succeeded by the Bogue-class escort carrier.
She displaced 9,000 long tons standard and 15,700 long tons at full load. She measured 140.5 m (461 ft) long with a beam of 21.0 m (69 ft). Her designed speed was 16.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 555.
Her main battery was three 102 mm (4 in) guns. She carried 15 aircraft.
She was in commission for 1,385 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 6 November 1943. She was struck from the register on 26 February 1946.
She was broken up for scrap in 1962.
