HNLMS Sumatra was a Java-class cruiser in service with the Royal Netherlands Navy. She carried the pennant number 1920. Nederlandse Scheepsbouw Maatschappij laid her keel on 15 July 1916. She was launched on 29 December 1920.
She was one of two ships of her class. The class followed the Holland class and was succeeded by the HNLMS De Ruyter (1935).
She displaced 6,670 long tons standard and 8,339 long tons at full load. She measured 155.3 m (510 ft) long with a beam of 16 m (52 ft). Her designed speed was 31 knots, and she carried a complement of 525.
Her main battery was ten 150 mm (5.9 in) guns. She carried two aircraft.
She was in commission for 1,945 days of the Second World War.
She was scuttled in 1944. The wreck survives.
