Murakumo was a Fubuki-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She carried the pennant number 1928. The ship was named after Japanese destroyer Murakumo. Her keel was laid at Fujinagata Shipyards on 25 April 1927. Launched on 27 September 1928, she entered service on 10 May 1929.

She was one of 21 ships of her class. The class followed the Mutsuki-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Hatsuharu-class destroyer.

She displaced 1,750 long tons. She measured 118.4 m (388 ft) long with a beam of 10.4 m (34 ft). Her designed speed was 38 knots, and she carried a complement of 219. Her main battery was of 127 mm (5 in) calibre.

She was in commission for 1,171 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 15 November 1942.

She was sunk on 12 October 1942, at 8°40′S 159°20′E. The wreck survives.
