I-5 was a submarine of the Junsen I Mod. built for the Imperial Japanese Navy. Her keel was laid at Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Kobe on 30 October 1929. She was launched on 19 June 1931.
The boat displaced 2,243 long tons surfaced and 2,921 long tons submerged. She measured 97.5 m (320 ft) long with a beam of 9.2 m (30 ft). Her designed speed was 18.8 knots, and she carried a complement of 93.
Her main battery was one 140 mm (5.5 in) guns. She carried one aircraft. Her machinery developed 6,000 bhp through two shafts.
She was in commission for 1,836 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 10 September 1944.
She was sunk on 19 July 1944. The wreck survives.
