SMS Niobe was a Gazelle-class cruiser, operated by the Kriegsmarine. AG Weser laid her keel on 30 August 1898. She entered service on 25 June 1900, having been launched on 18 July 1899.

Three ships of the class were built. The class followed the Hela and was succeeded by the Bremen-class cruiser.

She displaced 2,601 long tons standard and 2,916 long tons at full load. She measured 105 m (344 ft) long with a beam of 12.2 m (40 ft). Her designed speed was 21.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 257.

Her main battery was ten 105 mm (4.1 in) guns.

She served with the Kriegsmarine as Niobe. She then passed to the Yugoslav Navy, serving as Dalmacija from 26 June 1925. She then passed to the Regia Marina, serving as Cattaro from 25 April 1941. She then passed to the Kriegsmarine, serving as Niobe from 11 September 1943. She was in commission for 6,085 days of the Second World War.

She was sunk in December 1943 by torpedo. The wreck survives.
