U-847 was a Type IXD2 submarine in service with the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at DeSchiMAG AG Weser, Bremen on 23 November 1941. Launched on 5 September 1942, she entered service on 23 January 1943.

33 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Type I and was succeeded by the Type XXI.
