U-175 was a Type IXC submarine in service with the Kriegsmarine. DeSchiMAG AG Weser, Bremen laid her keel on 30 January 1941. Launched on 2 September 1941, she entered service on 5 December 1941.

142 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Type I and was succeeded by the Type XXI.

The boat displaced 1,102 long tons surfaced and 1,213 long tons submerged. She measured 76.8 m (252 ft) long with a beam of 6.8 m (22 ft). Her designed speed was 18.3 knots, and she carried a complement of 48.
