U-192 was a Type IXC/40 submarine, operated by the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at DeSchiMAG AG Weser, Bremen on 27 November 1941. She entered service on 16 November 1942, having been launched on 30 July 1942.

She was one of 142 ships of her class. The class followed the Type I and was succeeded by the Type XXI.
