U-1406 was a Type XVIIB submarine built for the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at Blohm & Voss, Hamburg on 30 October 1943. She entered service on 8 February 1945, having been launched on 2 January 1945.
She was one of eight ships of her class. The class followed the Type II (Conventional coastal submarine) and was succeeded by the Type XXIII (conventional coastal submarine).
The boat displaced 307 long tons surfaced and 332 long tons submerged. She measured 41.5 m (136 ft) long with a beam of 4.5 m (15 ft). Her designed speed was 8.8 knots, and she carried a complement of 19.
Her main battery was two 533 mm (21.0 in) guns.
She was in commission for 86 days of the Second World War.
She was scuttled on 5 May 1945. The wreck survives.
