U-194 was a Type IXC/40 submarine built for the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at AG Weser, Bremen on 17 January 1942. She entered service on 8 January 1943, having been launched on 22 September 1942.

She was one of 142 ships of her class. The class followed the Type I and was succeeded by the Type XXI.
