HMS Gardiner was a Captain-class frigate in service with the United States Navy. She carried the pennant number K478. The ship was named after U.S. Navy Ensign John Albert O’Toole. Her keel was laid at Boston Navy Yard, Boston, Massachusetts on 20 May 1943. Launched on 8 July 1943, she entered service on 28 September 1943.
