HMS Torbay was a T-class submarine in service with the Royal Navy. She carried the pennant number N79. She was named for Torbay. Chatham Dockyard laid her keel on 21 November 1938. Launched on 9 April 1940, she entered service on 14 January 1941.
52 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Grampus-class submarine and was succeeded by the U class.
The boat displaced 1,090 long tons surfaced and 1,575 long tons submerged. She measured 83.8 m (275 ft) long with a beam of 7.9 m (26 ft). Her designed speed was 15.2 knots, and she carried a complement of 59.
Her main battery was one 102 mm (4 in) guns.
She was in commission for 1,692 days of the Second World War.
