Zara was a Zara-class cruiser of the Regia Marina. Her keel was laid at Odero Terni Orlando, Muggiano on 4 July 1929. Launched on 27 April 1930, she entered service on 20 October 1931.
Her class ran to four ships. The class followed the Trento-class cruiser and was succeeded by the Italian cruiser Bolzano.
Displacement was 11,680 long tons standard and 14,300 long tons at full load. She measured 182.8 m (600 ft) long with a beam of 20.6 m (68 ft). Her designed speed was 33 knots, and she carried a complement of 841.
Her main battery was eight 203 mm (8.0 in) guns. Her belt armour was 150 mm (5.9 in) and her deck 70 mm. She carried two aircraft. Her machinery developed 95,000 shp.
She was in commission for 574 days of the Second World War.
She was sunk on 29 March 1941, at 35°20′N 20°57′E. The wreck survives.
