Iwate was a Izumo-class cruiser armored cruiser, operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The ship was named after Mount Iwate. Armstrong Whitworth, United Kingdom laid her keel on 11 November 1898. She was launched on 29 March 1900.

Two ships of the class were built. The class followed the Asama-class cruiser and was succeeded by the Japanese cruiser Yakumo.

Displacement was 9,274 long tons. She measured 132.3 m (434 ft) long with a beam of 20.9 m (69 ft). Her designed speed was 20.8 knots, and she carried a complement of 672.

Her main battery was four 203 mm (8 in) guns in two twin mountings. Her machinery developed 14,500 ihp through two shafts.

She was in commission for 2,193 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 30 November 1945.

She was broken up for scrap on 25 July 1945.
