Izumo was a Izumo-class cruiser armored cruiser in service with the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was named for Izumo Province. Armstrong Whitworth, United Kingdom laid her keel on 14 May 1898. She was launched on 19 September 1899.

Her class ran to two ships. The class followed the Asama-class cruiser and was succeeded by the Japanese cruiser Yakumo.

Displacement was 9,353 long tons. She measured 132.3 m (434 ft) long with a beam of 20.9 m (69 ft). Her designed speed was 20.8 knots, and she carried a complement of 672.

Her main battery was four 203 mm (8.0 in) guns in two twin mountings. Her machinery developed 14,500 ihp through two shafts.

She was in commission for 2,193 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 20 November 1945.

She was broken up for scrap on 24 July 1945.
