Maya was a Takao-class cruiser, operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was named for Mount Maya. Her keel was laid at Kawasaki Shipyards, Kobe on 4 December 1928. She entered service on 20 June 1932, having been launched on 8 November 1930.

Four ships of the class were built. The class followed the Myōkō-class cruiser and was succeeded by the Mogami-class cruiser.

Displacement was 9,694 long tons. She measured 203.8 m (669 ft) long with a beam of 19 m (62 ft). Her designed speed was 35.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 921.

Her main battery was ten 200 mm (7.9 in) guns. She carried three aircraft.

She was in commission for 1,937 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 20 December 1944.

She was sunk on 23 October 1944 by torpedo, at 9°27′N 117°23′E. The wreck survives.
