Shimakaze was a Minekaze-class destroyer in service with the Imperial Japanese Navy. She carried the pennant number 1920. Her keel was laid at Maizuru Naval Arsenal on 5 September 1919. She was launched on 31 March 1920.
She was one of twelve ships of her class. The class followed the Momi-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Wakatake-class destroyer.
Displacement was 1,344 long tons standard and 1,650 long tons at full load. She measured 102.5 m (336 ft) long with a beam of 9.0 m (30 ft). Her designed speed was 39 knots, and she carried a complement of 148.
Her main battery was four 120 mm (4.7 in) guns. Her machinery developed 38,500 shp through two shafts.
She was in commission for 1,258 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 10 February 1943.
She was sunk on 12 January 1943, at 2°51′S 149°43′E. The wreck survives.
