I-124 was a I-121-class submarine. Her keel was laid at Kawasaki Corporation, Kobe, Japan on 17 April 1926. She was launched on 12 December 1927.

She was one of five ships of her class.

The boat displaced 1,142 long tons surfaced and 1,768 long tons submerged. She measured 85.2 m (280 ft) long with a beam of 7.5 m (25 ft). Her designed speed was 14.9 knots, and she carried a complement of 80.

Her main battery was one 140 mm (5.5 in) guns.

She was decommissioned on 25 May 1935. She recommissioned on 15 November 1935. She was struck from the register on 30 April 1942.

She was sunk on 20 January 1942, at 15°00′N 120°00′E. The wreck survives.
