U-793 was a Type XVIIA submarine, operated by the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at Blohm & Voss, Hamburg on 1 December 1942. Launched on 4 March 1944, she entered service on 24 April 1944.
Eight ships of the class were built. The class followed the Type II (Conventional coastal submarine) and was succeeded by the Type XXIII (conventional coastal submarine).
The boat displaced 277 long tons surfaced and 309 long tons submerged. She measured 39.0 m (128 ft) long with a beam of 4.5 m (15 ft). Her designed speed was 9 knots, and she carried a complement of 12.
Her main battery was two 533 mm (21.0 in) guns. 230 hp drove one shafts.
She was in commission for 375 days of the Second World War.
She was scuttled on 4 May 1945, at 54°19′N 9°43′E. The wreck survives.
