USS James C. Owens was a Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer of the United States Navy. She was named for James C. Owens Jr. Her keel was laid at Bethlehem Shipbuilding, San Pedro on 9 April 1944. Launched on 1 October 1944, she entered service on 17 February 1945.

54 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Fletcher-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Gearing-class destroyer.

Displacement was 2,200 long tons. She measured 114.6 m (376 ft) long with a beam of 12.2 m (40 ft). Her designed speed was 34 knots, and she carried a complement of 336.

Her main battery was six 127 mm (5 in) guns.

She served with the United States Navy as James C. Owens until 15 July 1973. She then passed to the Brazilian Navy, serving as Sergipe from 15 July 1973. She was in commission for 197 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 15 July 1973. She was struck from the register on 15 July 1973.

She was broken up for scrap.
