Tembien was a 600-Serie Adua-class submarine in service with the Regia Marina. She was named for Tembien. OTO, Muggiano laid her keel on 6 February 1937. She entered service on 1 July 1938, having been launched on 6 February 1938.

She was one of 17 ships of her class. The class followed the Perla-class submarine and was succeeded by the Acciaio-class submarine.

The boat displaced 680 long tons surfaced and 844 long tons submerged. She measured 60.3 m (198 ft) long with a beam of 6.5 m (21 ft). Her designed speed was 14 knots, and she carried a complement of 44.

Her main battery was one 100 mm (3.9 in) guns. Her machinery developed 1,400 hp.

She was in commission for 701 days of the Second World War.

She was sunk on 2 August 1941, at 36°00′N 14°47′E. The wreck survives.
