Kagerō was a Kagerō-class destroyer built for the Imperial Japanese Navy. She carried the pennant number 1938. Her keel was laid at Maizuru Naval Arsenal on 3 September 1937. Launched on 27 September 1938, she entered service on 6 November 1939.
19 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Asashio-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Yūgumo-class destroyer.
Displacement was 2,033 long tons. She measured 118.5 m (389 ft) long with a beam of 10.8 m (35 ft). Her designed speed was 35.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 239.
Her main battery was six 127 mm (5 in) guns.
She was in commission for 1,322 days of the Second World War. She was struck from the register on 20 June 1943.
She was sunk on 8 May 1943, at 8°08′S 156°55′E. The wreck survives.
