HMS Avon was a River-class frigate, operated by the Royal Navy. She carried the pennant number K97. Her keel was laid at Charles Hill & Sons Ltd., Bristol on the river Avon. on 8 January 1943. She entered service on 18 September 1943, having been launched on 19 June 1943.
She was one of 15 ships of her class. The Loch-class frigate followed.
She displaced 1,370 long tons standard and 1,830 long tons at full load. She measured 86.3 m (283 ft) long with a beam of 11.1 m (37 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 107. Her main battery was of 102 mm (4.0 in) calibre.
She served with the Royal Navy as Avon. She then passed to the Portuguese Navy, serving as Nuno Tristão from 1949. She was in commission for 715 days of the Second World War.
She was broken up for scrap in 1972.
