Agosta was a Redoutable-class submarine, operated by the Marine Nationale. She carried the pennant number Q178. Arsenal de Cherbourg, Cherbourg, France laid her keel on 30 January 1932. Launched on 30 April 1934, she entered service on 1 February 1937.

She was one of 29 ships of her class.
