U-459 was a submarine of the Type XIV ocean-going submarine tanker in service with the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at Deutsche Werke, Kiel on 22 November 1940. She entered service on 15 November 1941, having been launched on 13 September 1941.

Her class ran to ten ships.

The boat displaced 1,661 long tons surfaced and 1,901 long tons submerged. She measured 67.1 m (220 ft) long with a beam of 9.3 m (31 ft). Her designed speed was 14.9 knots, and she carried a complement of 53.

Her main battery was two 37 mm (1.5 in) guns.
