U-462 was a submarine of the Type XIV ocean-going submarine tanker in service with the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid at Deutsche Werke, Kiel on 2 January 1941. She entered service on 5 March 1942, having been launched on 29 November 1941.
She was one of ten ships of her class.
The boat displaced 1,661 long tons surfaced and 1,901 long tons submerged. She measured 67.1 m (220 ft) long with a beam of 9.3 m (31 ft). Her designed speed was 14.9 knots, and she carried a complement of 53.
Her main battery was two 37 mm (1.5 in) guns.
She was in commission for 510 days of the Second World War.
She was sunk on 30 July 1943, at 45°33′N 10°58′W. The wreck survives.
