USS S-44 was a S-class submarine, operated by the United States Navy. Her keel was laid at Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Quincy, Massachusetts on 19 February 1921. Launched on 27 October 1923, she entered service on 16 February 1925.
Her class ran to 111 ships.
The boat displaced 850 long tons surfaced and 1,126 long tons submerged. She measured 68.6 m (225 ft) long with a beam of 6.1 m (20 ft). Her designed speed was 14.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 42.
Her main battery was one 102 mm (4 in) guns.
She was in commission for 1,497 days of the Second World War.
She was sunk on 7 October 1943. The wreck survives.
