U-58 was a Type IIC coastal submarine built for the Kriegsmarine. She carried the pennant number 1938. Her keel was laid at Deutsche Werke AG, Kiel on 29 September 1937. Launched on 12 October 1938, she entered service on 4 February 1939.

Her class ran to 50 ships. The class followed the CV 707-type submarine and was succeeded by the Planned:.
