HMS Richmond was a Wickes-class destroyer, operated by the United States Navy. She carried the pennant number G88. She was named for Donald Fairfax. Her keel was laid at Mare Island Navy Yard on 10 July 1917. She entered service on 6 April 1918, having been launched on 15 December 1917.
104 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Caldwell-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Clemson-class destroyer.
Displacement was 1,090 long tons. She measured 95.7 m (314 ft) long with a beam of 9.4 m (31 ft). Her designed speed was 35 knots, and she carried a complement of 100.
Her main battery was four 102 mm (4 in) guns.
She served with the United States Navy as USS Fairfax until 21 November 1940. She then passed to the Royal Navy, serving as HMS Richmond from 5 December 1940.
