U-62 was a Type IIC coastal submarine built for the Kriegsmarine. She carried the pennant number 1939. Deutsche Werke AG, Kiel laid her keel on 2 January 1939. Launched on 16 November 1939, she entered service on 21 December 1939.

She was one of 50 ships of her class. The class followed the CV 707-type submarine and was succeeded by the Planned:.
