HMCS Fort Frances was a destroyer escort of the Algerine-class minesweeper built for the Royal Canadian Navy. She carried the pennant number J396. She was named for Fort Frances. Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Port Arthur laid her keel on 11 May 1943. She entered service on 28 October 1944, having been launched on 30 October 1943.

14 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Bangor-class minesweeper and was succeeded by the Ton-class minesweeper.

She displaced 1,030 long tons standard and 1,325 long tons at full load. She measured 68.6 m (225 ft) long with a beam of 10.7 m (35 ft). Her designed speed was 16.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 85. Her main battery was of 102 mm (4.0 in) calibre.

Her machinery developed 2,400 ihp through two shafts.

She was in commission for 309 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 3 August 1945. She recommissioned on 23 October 1945.

She was transferred in 1948.
