I-165 was a submarine of the Kaidai-class submarine (KD5 Type) of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Kure Naval Arsenal laid her keel on 19 December 1929. She was launched on 2 June 1931.

Her class ran to 20 ships.

The boat displaced 1,705 long tons surfaced and 2,330 long tons submerged. She measured 97.7 m (321 ft) long with a beam of 8.2 m (27 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 75.

Her main battery was one 120 mm (4.7 in) guns. Her machinery developed 6,000 bhp.

She was in commission for 2,126 days of the Second World War.

She was sunk on 27 June 1945 by aircraft, at 2°14′N 78°25′E. The wreck survives.
