I-55 was a submarine of the Kaidai-class submarine (KD3A Type) built for the Imperial Japanese Navy. She carried the pennant number 1925. Her keel was laid at Kure Naval Arsenal, Kure, Japan on 1 April 1924. She entered service on 5 September 1927, having been launched on 2 September 1925.

20 ships of the class were built.

The boat displaced 1,800 long tons surfaced and 2,300 long tons submerged. She measured 100 m (328 ft) long with a beam of 8 m (26 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 60.

Her main battery was one 120 mm (4.7 in) guns. Her machinery developed 6,800 bhp.

She was in commission for 2,193 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 10 February 1932. She recommissioned on 20 February 1934.

She was scuttled in September 1945, at 6°18′S 111°36′E. The wreck survives.
