USS Kearny was a Gleaves-class destroyer built for the United States Navy. The ship was named after Lawrence Kearny. Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company laid her keel on 1 March 1939. She entered service on 13 September 1940, having been launched on 9 March 1940.

Her class ran to 66 ships. The class followed the Benson-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Fletcher-class destroyer.

Displacement was 1,630 long tons. She measured 106.1 m (348 ft) long with a beam of 11.0 m (36 ft). Her designed speed was 37.4 knots, and she carried a complement of 276.

Her main battery was five 127 mm (5 in) guns.

She was in commission for 1,815 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 7 March 1946. She was struck from the register on 1 June 1971.

She was broken up for scrap on 6 October 1972.
