I-54 was a submarine of the Kaidai-class submarine (KD3A Type). She carried the pennant number 1926. Her keel was laid on 15 November 1924. She entered service on 15 December 1927, having been launched on 15 March 1926.
20 ships of the class were built.
The boat displaced 1,800 long tons surfaced and 2,300 long tons submerged. She measured 100 m (328 ft) long with a beam of 8 m (26 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 60.
Her main battery was one 120 mm (4.7 in) guns. Her machinery developed 6,800 bhp.
She was in commission for 1,610 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned in February 1932. She recommissioned in June 1933. She was struck from the register on 20 November 1945.
She was scuttled on 8 May 1946. The wreck survives.
