Benevente was a destroyer of the Cannon-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy. The ship was named after Harold Jensen Christopher. Dravo Corporation, Wilmington, Delaware laid her keel on 7 December 1942. She entered service on 23 October 1943, having been launched on 19 June 1943.
She was one of 79 ships of her class. The class followed the Buckley-class destroyer escort and was succeeded by the Edsall-class destroyer escort.
She displaced 1,240 long tons. She measured 93.3 m (306 ft) long with a beam of 11.0 m (36 ft). Her designed speed was 21 knots, and she carried a complement of 216.
Her main battery was three 76 mm (3 in) guns.
She served with the United States Navy until 19 December 1944. She then passed to the Brazilian Navy, serving as NAe Benevente (D-20) from 19 December 1944.
