Algérien was a frigate of the Cannon-class destroyer escort, operated by the United States Navy. She was named for Cornelius Cronin. Dravo Corporation, Wilmington, Delaware laid her keel on 13 May 1943. She was launched on 27 November 1943.

Her class ran to 79 ships. The class followed the Buckley-class destroyer escort and was succeeded by the Edsall-class destroyer escort.

Displacement was 1,240 long tons. She measured 93.3 m (306 ft) long with a beam of 11.0 m (36 ft). Her designed speed was 21 knots, and she carried a complement of 216. Her main battery was of 76 mm (3.0 in) calibre.

She served with the United States Navy as Cronin until 14 May 1952. She then passed to the Marine Nationale, serving as Algérien from 23 January 1944. She then passed to the Marine Nationale, serving as Algérien from 14 October 1946. She was in commission for 2,781 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned in May 1964. She was struck from the register on 14 May 1952.

She was broken up for scrap in November 1965.
