HMS Hostile was a H-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. She carried the pennant number H55. Scotts Shipbuilding & Engineering Company, Greenock, Scotland laid her keel on 27 February 1935. She was launched on 24 January 1936.

Her class ran to 23 ships. The class followed the E and F-class destroyer and was succeeded by the I-class destroyer.

She displaced 1,350 long tons standard and 1,883 long tons at full load. She measured 98.5 m (323 ft) long with a beam of 10.1 m (33 ft). Her designed speed was 36 knots, and she carried a complement of 137. Her main battery was of 120 mm (4.7 in) calibre.

She was scuttled on 23 August 1940, at 69°05′N 14°30′E. The wreck survives.
