EK-2 was a Tacoma-class frigate, operated by the United States Navy. The ship was named after Cities of Long Beach. Her keel was laid at Globe Shipbuilding Company, Superior, Wisconsin on 19 March 1943. She entered service on 8 September 1943, having been launched on 5 May 1943.
Her class ran to 76 ships. The class followed the Asheville-class patrol frigate and was succeeded by the none.
She displaced 2,415 long tons. She measured 92.3 m (303 ft) long with a beam of 11.3 m (37 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 190. Her main battery was of 76 mm (3.0 in) calibre.
She served with the United States Navy as Long Beach until 1 December 1961. She then passed to the Soviet Navy, serving as EK-2 from 12 July 1945. She then passed to the Imperial Japanese Navy, serving as Shii from 30 November 1953. She was in commission for 777 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 12 July 1945. She was struck from the register on 1 December 1961.
She was broken up for scrap in 1967.
