USS McGowan was a Fletcher-class destroyer built for the United States Navy. The ship was named after Samuel McGowan. Federal Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Kearny, N.J. laid her keel on 30 June 1943. She entered service on 20 December 1943, having been launched on 14 November 1943.
173 ships of the class were built. The class followed the Gleaves-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer.
She displaced 2,050 long tons. She measured 114.6 m (376 ft) long with a beam of 11.9 m (39 ft). Her designed speed was 38 knots, and she carried a complement of 319.
Her main battery was five 127 mm (5 in) guns.
She served with the United States Navy as McGowan until 30 November 1960. She then passed to the Spanish Navy, serving as Jorge Juan from 1 December 1960. She was in commission for 622 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 30 November 1960. She was struck from the register on 1 October 1972.
She was broken up for scrap.
