USS Hargood was a destroyer escort of the Colony-class frigate/Tacoma-class frigate built for the United States Navy. She carried the pennant number PF-74. She was named for William Hargood. Walsh-Kaiser Company, Providence, Rhode Island laid her keel on 30 April 1943. Launched on 6 August 1943, she entered service on 24 November 1943.

Her class ran to 45 ships.

Displacement was 1,264 long tons. She measured 92.3 m (303 ft) long with a beam of 11.3 m (37 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 190. Her main battery was of 76 mm (3.0 in) calibre.
