USS Madison was a Benson-class destroyer of the United States Navy. She carried the pennant number DD-425. She was named for James J. Madison. Boston Navy Yard laid her keel on 19 September 1938. Launched on 20 October 1939, she entered service on 6 August 1940.
Her class ran to 30 ships. The class followed the Sims-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Gleaves-class destroyer.
She displaced 1,620 long tons. She measured 105.8 m (347 ft) long with a beam of 11.0 m (36 ft). Her designed speed was 35 knots, and she carried a complement of 235.
Her main battery was five 127 mm (5 in) guns.
She was in commission for 1,853 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 13 March 1946. She was struck from the register on 1 June 1968.
She was expended as a target on 14 October 1969. The wreck survives.
