USS Mayo was a Benson-class destroyer built for the United States Navy. The ship was named after Admiral Henry Thomas Mayo. Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation laid her keel on 16 May 1938. She entered service on 18 September 1940, having been launched on 26 March 1940.

She was one of 30 ships of her class. The class followed the Sims-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Gleaves-class destroyer.

Displacement was 1,620 long tons. She measured 114 m (374 ft) long with a beam of 11.0 m (36 ft). Her designed speed was 37.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 191. Her main battery was of 127 mm (5 in) calibre.

She was in commission for 1,810 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 18 March 1946. She was struck from the register on 1 December 1971.
