USS Reading was a destroyer escort of the Tacoma-class frigate, operated by the United States Navy. The ship was named after City of Reading. Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Company, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin laid her keel on 23 May 1943. She entered service on 19 August 1944, having been launched on 28 August 1943.
Her class ran to 76 ships. The class followed the Asheville-class patrol frigate and was succeeded by the none.
She displaced 1,264 long tons. She measured 92.3 m (303 ft) long with a beam of 11.3 m (37 ft). Her designed speed was 20 knots, and she carried a complement of 190. Her main battery was of 76 mm (3.0 in) calibre.
She served with the United States Navy as Reading until 19 December 1945. She then passed to the Argentine Navy, serving as Heroína from July 1947. She was in commission for 379 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 19 December 1945. She was struck from the register on 5 January 1946.
She was broken up for scrap in 1966.
