HMS Curlew was a C-class cruiser light cruiser in service with the Royal Navy. She carried the pennant number D42. Vickers Limited, Barrow in Furness laid her keel on 21 August 1916. She entered service on 14 December 1917, having been launched on 5 July 1917.

40 ships of the class were built. The class followed the W and Z-class destroyer and was succeeded by the Weapon-class destroyer.

Displacement was 4,190 long tons. She measured 137.2 m (450 ft) long with a beam of 13.1 m (43 ft). Her designed speed was 29 knots, and she carried a complement of 460. Her main battery was of 152 mm (6.0 in) calibre.

Her machinery developed 40,000 shp.

She was in commission for 268 days of the Second World War.

She was sunk on 26 May 1940 by aircraft, at 68°34′N 16°33′E. The wreck survives.
