USS R-16 was a R-1-class submarine, operated by the United States Navy. She carried the pennant number SS-93. Union Iron Works, San Francisco, California laid her keel on 26 April 1917. She entered service on 5 August 1918, having been launched on 15 December 1917.

The boat displaced 574 long tons surfaced and 685 long tons submerged. She measured 56.7 m (186 ft) long with a beam of 5.5 m (18 ft). Her designed speed was 12.5 knots, and she carried a complement of 29.

Her main battery was one 76 mm (3 in) guns. Her machinery developed 880 bhp.

She was in commission for 2,145 days of the Second World War. She was decommissioned on 12 May 1931. She recommissioned on 1 July 1940. She was struck from the register on 25 July 1945.

She was broken up for scrap on 22 January 1946.
